Closing Day Schedule
The Caledonia Park & Rec’s RTD Mighty Tigers traveled to Tupelo last weekend to compete in the Mississippi Soccer Association’s Coaches Cup in the U10 girl’s division. The team squared off first in Bracket B against a solid Tupelo team and edged opponents by just one goal (2-1). They reached full stride in the second game and rolled past Desoto County 7-0 with four separate players scoring goals. They won their bracket and advanced to the semi-finals on Sunday against the number two seed from Bracket A, another local team from Columbus.
The Mighty Tigers posted another 7-0 victory against Columbus’ Lowndes Radial Tire to advance to the Finals against Starkville’s Rotary Club (winners of Bracket A). The Mighty Tigers got on the board early and maintained the lead through the first half. They gave up a goal in the third and remained tied till almost the end. With just 2 minutes remaining in the final quarter of play, the Mighty Tigers let one sneak past them to give the Starkville team the victory. Coach Robert Reed said, “It was a great tournament hosted by Tupelo soccer club on behalf of the state soccer association…we had Golden Triangle teams finishing 1, 2 and 3 from three different clubs, demonstrating the bright young female soccer talent in the area.”
